When Payout Setup Is Required

Payout setup is only required if you want to charge subscribers for your MCP server. It is not required to deploy your MCP server or to host it on mctx.

  • Free hosting — No payout account needed. Your MCP server can go live and serve subscribers without any payment setup.
  • Hosting fees — If your MCP server exceeds the free tier (1,000 requests/month), you add a standard payment method (credit or debit card) to cover hosting costs. This is separate from payout setup.
  • Subscriber monetization — If you want to charge subscribers for using your MCP server, you need a payout account so mctx can route their payments to you. This is when payout setup is required.

See How Pricing Works for the full breakdown of hosting fees and optional monetization.

Step 1: Start Payout Setup

When you're ready to enable monetization:

  1. Go to app.mctx.ai/dev/payouts
  2. Click Set Up Payouts
  3. You'll be redirected to the payout onboarding flow

You can also start from your MCP server's detail page — if you haven't set up payouts, you'll see an Enable Monetization section with a setup prompt.

Step 2: Complete Payout Onboarding

You'll be guided through the onboarding flow. You'll need to provide:

Business Information:

  • Business type (individual, company, or non-profit)
  • Legal business name (or your personal name for sole proprietors)
  • Tax identification number (SSN for US individuals, EIN for companies)
  • Business address

Bank Account Information:

  • Bank account number for direct deposits
  • Routing number (US) or IBAN/SWIFT (international)

Identity Verification:

  • Government-issued ID (driver's license, passport, etc.)
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number

Note: This information is required for legal compliance (KYC/AML regulations) and to protect against fraud. Your information is encrypted and stored securely.

Step 3: Return to mctx

After completing payout onboarding:

  1. Click Continue on the final page
  2. You'll be redirected to your Server List page (/dev/servers)
  3. Your payout setup status will update automatically

Verification Timeline

Verification typically completes instantly, but in some cases can take:

  • 1-2 business days for most accounts
  • Up to 5 business days if additional documentation is required

You'll receive an email when verification is complete.

After Verification

Once your payout account is verified, you can enable monetization from your MCP server's detail page:

  1. Go to app.mctx.ai/dev/servers
  2. Click your MCP server
  3. Find the Monetization section
  4. Enable monetization and set your subscriber price
  5. Existing subscribers are grandfathered (free) — new subscribers pay your set price

You keep 100% of subscriber revenue. Payouts are sent to your bank account on a standard schedule (typically 2 business days for US accounts).

Payout Dashboard

View your payout history and account status at app.mctx.ai/dev/payouts:

  • Account Status - Verification status and payout eligibility
  • Payout History - Past transfers to your bank account
  • Balance - Pending balance awaiting next payout
  • Account Details - Update bank information or business details

Troubleshooting

"Additional information required" message

Additional documentation may be requested for verification:

  1. Check your email for a message from our payment provider
  2. Click the link in the email to provide the requested information
  3. Return to the payout dashboard after submitting

Account verification failed

If your information cannot be verified:

  1. Double-check that all details are accurate
  2. Ensure your government ID is valid and not expired
  3. Contact support for assistance

Cannot access payout dashboard

If you need to update your information:

  1. Go to app.mctx.ai/dev/payouts
  2. Click Manage Payouts
  3. Sign in to your payout account

What Happens if Payouts Are Disabled

If payout capability is disabled (e.g., for compliance review) and you have monetization enabled:

  • Subscriber payments are paused (subscribers are not charged during suspension)
  • Subscribers see "temporarily unavailable" on monetized MCP servers
  • You'll receive an in-app notification and email
  • Contact payout support to resolve the issue

Once payouts are re-enabled, recovery depends on how they were disabled:

Temporary disablement (compliance review, verification hold):

  • Your MCP servers automatically return to live status
  • No action required — subscribers can resume using your MCP servers immediately

Deliberate disconnection (you disconnected your payout account):

  • Your MCP servers return to ready status
  • You must click Deploy MCP Server to reactivate them
  • Subscribers cannot use your MCP servers until you deploy
